Yelahanka sits in the north of Bangalore, on the road that runs toward the airport, NH44. It sits well outside the older, busy core of the city. Second, the Yelahanka Air Force Station sits inside the locality. It is a major Indian Air Force base. It hosts Aero India, one of Asia's biggest air show events, held once every two years and watched around the world. Beyond these two big reasons, the area has a quieter side too. It works as a study hub, home to REVA University and a few known engineering colleges. A set of lakes also keeps parts of the area far greener than most of the city.

That depends on the exact start point within Yelahanka. A wide, six lane stretch of NH44 keeps this trip short outside peak hours. The distance to the Bangalore City Railway Station and the old commercial core runs closer to 15 to 18 km. That trip usually takes 40 to 50 minutes in normal traffic. Whitefield sits on the far, eastern edge of the city, well away from here. That cross city drive can run past an hour, based on the route and time of day. This gap in distance explains a lot. Yelahanka suits buyers and tenants whose daily travel centres on the airport belt or the growing job hubs in North Bangalore. It suits them more than those who work mainly in the east.

Yelahanka already has strong train links through Yelahanka Junction, a busy station on several long distance routes. These routes link Bangalore to cities right across South India. Yelahanka holds more green cover than most similar North Bangalore areas. A cluster of lakes spread across the belt is the main reason why. Puttenahalli Lake stands out among them as a marked bird sanctuary. It draws birdwatchers and morning walkers in equal number. The Old Yelahanka Lake and smaller water bodies near Attur, Ananthapura and Allalasandra add more open space across the area. The belt also holds several kept public parks and walking paths, mainly across Yelahanka New Town. Wide, planned roads there leave more room for green cover than the older, tighter parts of the city usually allow. This mix of lakes and parks stands out for buyers who want easy outdoor access, without a long drive out of the city.

Yelahanka works well for most residents, since it mixes settled roads and services with steady, ongoing growth. It skips the sudden strain some newer suburbs face. It still costs more than far off outer suburbs, thanks to its airport link and settled social base. One mix up is worth fixing here too. Yelahanka is not its own metro city. It is one area inside the larger Bangalore metro region, run today under the Bangalore North City Corporation.
